Little Eve by Catriona Ward

This was my 5 star read for the month of March.

Little Eve by Catriona Ward is one of those books that grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go until the very end. Picture this: a spooky old Scottish manor, a troubled protagonist, religious cult, and enough family secrets to make your head spin.

Ward's writing is seriously impressive. She sets the scene so vividly, you'll swear you can feel the mist rolling off the moors and hear the creak of floorboards in the night. And the characters? Complex doesn't even begin to cover it. It's difficult to root for any one of them, as they are all troubled and traumatized, unwillingly backstab each other to survive.

I really enjoyed this book in a dark and morbid way. Cult fiction is fascinating topic for me and Ward does an excellent job of weaving the inner workings of the cult throughout the story and how it translates to the trauma the characters experience.

Overall, if you're into books that'll give you goosebumps and keep you up way past your bedtime, Little Eve is a must-read. However, if you are a person that is easily triggered, this book is not for you, as there are many including: child abuse, domestic abuse, psychological and emotional abuse, suicide, light body horror, sexual abuse, and child loss.
